Day One of Filming HELLO OFFICER

Dang, it's an exhausting business, movie-making! I'm learning alot about being a script supervisor, and the shoot is going well, if slowly. But it's hard getting up at 6am on a Saturday (and a Sunday!) on your weekend and devoting all your daylight hours to a project. Thank god I brought my camp chair and am not having to stand the whole day long.

It's been cool to see how little my original script was actually changed. That's not common when filming starts, I hear. And it's eye-opening to see how many shots are required to get across my "simple" script. The actors and crew members are getting no payment, which is very amazing. But they're being so professional and doing quality work. And the results should be very cute!

Script supervising mostly means that you're the one who writes in a log of each shot taken. Back in the day they used the clapper boards. We have one now, but really, they told me, the timecode on the camera takes care of most of that tracking function. That's what I write down. The most common phrase heard on set is "Wendy, timecode is xxxxx." I also learned that, though this will be a digital film, it's filmed in analog and then converted. So we are truly filming.

Plus we also had a person (Dorothy, or Dot) who is the videographer Angela assigned to do the documentary "making of HELLO OFFICER." She comes around when you're picking your nose and films it. And asks you questions you begin to answer in a silly way then you turn around and realize her camera is on! And then we had a guy from Cable Access TV out to film and interview us for a show he has about filmmakers in Austin. I was interviewed for about 5 minutes. So there were cameras on cameras with cameras today! By the way, Angela has named her production company Big Plume Productions.
