Gorgeous Lake Retreat with WriterGrrls
We had another beautiful Lounge-n-Learn for the Austin WriterGrrls at the big, funky, colorful lakehouse of Julie this weekend. With the temperature at 99 degrees, man, was that water in Lake LBJ lovely! And the foods and drinks everyone brought -- ultra delicious! Wacky, wonderful discussions about life and creativity and everything in between.

J4 and I left Austin by 3pm Friday, and the new way to get there via Anderson Mill Rd really did take only 75 minutes. Julie has rebuilt the dock since last year, and created a way to anchor the floats near that dock so people can drink wine from their water floats and not be carried far away by the wind and waves.

I coordinated the presentation agenda for the event. Even with the e-Zine presenter not attending, we still had a full Saturday with awesome discussions of Blogging, Screenwriting, How (not) to Annoy an Editor, and Adding Emotional Tension (from the Donald Maas workshop). Then J4 did reprise of her Writergrrl Rewrite Family Feud Game. The way to win that: be as shocking as possible in the new content you insert. heh

About 20 people there for the Saturday, with about 14 people staying overnight for some or all of the weekend. Wow, love the Austin creative community!

We're in the "learn" portion of the Lounge-n-Learn here. J4 created the Writergrrl Rewrite Family Feud game. Our team is the Pink Flamingoes. We're brainstorming on how to rewrite -- in 3 minutes! -- some badly written passage J4 showed us. From L to R: Lorie, JenniferM, me, RobinA+ and Carla.
